The Guardian featured Pure Strategies’ report, Advancing on the Path to Product Sustainability, in an examination of the financial benefits of sustainability. Our research found the top business value gained was employee engagement, with 33% of survey respondents realizing $5m or more. Companies are increasingly achieving sales growth from their efforts, with 27% earning $5m or more in increased sales. The Guardian also highlighted department store chain Marks & Spencer’s realization of $225 million in net business benefit from initiatives implemented as a result of the company’s sustainability plan.
Responding to intense interest in how companies are making the business case for sustainability, The Guardian article launched a year-long series, The New Bottom Line, to explore the different metrics firms use to document the business benefits their environmental and social improvements bring.
